10 Thai BL Series to Watch in 2021!
South Korean and Taiwanese BLs are truly wonderful, and they have provided us with some of the best stories in the industry. However, since the beginning of time and in this blog, Thai BLs have been something we can't truly ignore. We'll take a look at ten of the top Thai BL Dramas that we can watch for a few minutes. Prior to then, due to geo-locked restrictions, some of these shows may not be available in your country. Use a VPN if this is the case. Let's get started without further ado!
#1. A Tale of Thousand Stars
Because of its magnificent plot, it's a great idea to start this list with A Tale of Thousand Stars. This Thai BL provided us one of the industry's most heartwarming stories, and it certainly deserves to be honored. The story of Tian, a wealthy young lad who becomes a volunteer teacher, and Phupha, a top forest officer, will be told in A Tale of Thousand Stars. A volunteer teacher's heart was donated to Tian after she died in an accident, saving him from a near-death heart attack. When Tian discovers his donor's previous life, he chooses to follow in her footsteps and keep her pledge. He met the top officer in the village, and their love tale began. With the disparity in their social rank and the risks they face in their environment, it's questionable whether the two could live in peace and if Tian could still keep his thousand-star vow.
#2. I Told Sunset About You
We'd say this Thai BL is one of the most pure we've seen in the previous few years, and it's unquestionably a masterpiece. With so many prizes from the recent Line TV Awards, it's reasonable to say it's a fantastic Thai BL that might give us chills. I Told Sunset About You tells the story of Teh and Oh, former best friends who were brought together by fate. Their shared dreams will provide friction as well as an opportunity to explore the world of love and grief.
#3. Until We Meet Again
All at once, reincarnation, serious drama, and gorgeous BL? The show Until We Meet Again is ideal for that! This BL covers the narrative of Dean and Pharm, who are thirty-year-old reincarnations of a couple. Their fathers forbade them from seeing each other because of a forbidden love he had at the time. Because of them, the two chose to commit themselves in front of their peers. Returning to the present, the pair will reunite in a new environment, but with memories from the past.
#4. He's Coming To Me
He's Coming To Me is another heartwarming BL series on our list. When it first aired in 2019, only a few people were aware of it because, unlike any other GMMTV series, it was only available on Line TV. Thankfully, the corporation chose to make it available on its YouTube page, allowing international fans to enjoy it as well. One of my particular favorites is He's Coming To Me, which follows the story of Mes, a ghost who has been unable to reincarnate for the past 20 years, and Thun, a young kid who can see spirits. After seeing each other every year, Thun assured Mes that he would figure out why he died the way he did. With their quest for the truth, their love blossoms as well.
#5. I Promised You the Moon
I Promised You The Moon was one of the most anticipated sequels back in May of 2021, and it sent us on a roller coaster of emotions. I Promised You the Moon concludes Teh and Oh's story from I Told Sunset About You, focusing on how their wonderful story was harmed by circumstances beyond their control. With the entrance of new people who could make or break their relationship, some things are bound to alter now that they are both enjoying their university life.
#6. Manner of Death
Max and Tul's comeback BL series in 2020 is one of the best storylines out there, and you should be aware of it. Bunnakit, a medical inspector at a regional hospital, and Tan, a tutor, are the central characters in Manner of Death. With Jane's death, Dr. Bunnakit may believe it was homicide rather than suicide. Despite threats to falsify his report, Dr. Bunnakit did not consider doing so until one of his pals mysteriously vanished. When the doctor performs his own investigation, all of the evidence points to Tan, the only person he has as a suspect in the crime.
#7. Don't Say No
Although this Thai BL is the newest on the list, fans have already raved about the first two episodes. Season 2 of TharnType has spawned a spin-off series. Don't Say No follows Leo and Fiat on their quest to find their own love story. Their connection is bound to be unique, as they go from buddies to lovers, and as good and bad boys. You might be hesitant to watch this so soon because it is so new, but the positive reviews for the show may persuade you because of its compelling tale.
#8. Lovely Writer
Lovely Writer is one of the best Thai BLs released this year, and it definitely helped us to be more open minded. Gene, a seasoned writer whose publisher advises he try penning a different and new genre, Boys' Love, and Nubsib, an aspiring actor who would change Gene's life, are the characters in Lovely Writer. Gene will use Nubsib's strong affection for him as inspiration to write new BL work, but everything will change when he begins to feel something for Nubsib.
#9. Sotus/Sotus S
These two Thai BLs were among the first to establish the BL industry's reputation, and the rest is history. Sotus and Sotus S narrates the narrative of Arthit, a senior student who runs their SOTUS system with an iron hand, and Kongphob, a freshman student who will stand up to Arthit's abuses. Their regular encounters may appear to be a battle between the two, but all will fall into place as they understand their affections for one another.
#10. TharnType
TharnType is one of the most well-known Thai BL catalogs nowadays. TharnType's first season was launched in 2019, and it was deemed an underdog because it was released at the same time as Until We Meet Again and Dark Blue Kiss. The primary characters' relationship was spot on, and it truly resonated with the audience. TharnType is the narrative of Type, a handsome freshman with a football obsession, and Tharn, a beautiful caring music major and openly gay. Everything is OK until Type discovers that his new roommate is homosexual. The clash of Tharn and Type heralds the commencement of a war, but it also heralds the beginning of a love tale.
Although there are more Thai BLs being released today than in the past, the quality isn't on pace with that of the past. I'm expecting that the last four months of the year will see the release of some of the most eagerly anticipated Thai BLs. Which of the Thai BLs on our list is your favorite? Thank you for taking the time to read this! That's all for now, and I'll see you on the next one.
