I'm now watching seven BL series (May 2022)
Although there are many new and current BLs on the internet nowadays, there are times when we just want to re-watch some previous BLs, either because we miss the characters or because they are our comfort series. In this blog, I'll provide my opinions on the BLs that I'm presently watching and whether or not they're excellent depending on my observations. In the comments box below, you may also share your own watch list. Let's get straight into the blog without further ado.
#1. Mr. Unlucky Has No Choice
Because several of the BLs I've been watching for the last few weeks are coming to an end this month, I tried watching some new ones, one of which is Mr. Unlucky Has No Choice. I just finished watching the first episode, and all I can say is that the narrative of this Japanese BL is off to a terrific start. Because of the similarities in features and how the characters interact with one another, it reminds me of Cherry Magic from 2020. Even though the first episode is only 24 minutes long, the comedy scenes made me laugh and made me appreciate it. The main couple's chemistry was also fantastic, and I never expected such a scenario to be in the first episode of a series. Overall, the plot of this BL has a strong start and a compelling sequence of events.
#2. Star In My Mind
GMMTV BLs are shows that I won't forget to watch in a week, and Star In My Mind is one of my Friday comfort BLs. When I first started watching this BL a few weeks ago, it was definitely one of my favorites since it was simple to follow and didn't require a critical mind to comprehend the plot. However, the most recent episode created a lot of conflict amongst the characters. I suppose the made-up drama was unneeded, and the series should instead focus on further developing the main characters in order to offer a satisfying conclusion. Aside from that, I enjoy this series a lot because of the main couple's strong chemistry and the direction the story is taking based on the preview for the upcoming episode. I would absolutely suggest this series to everyone if Episode 8 had amazing sequences for the main characters as a couple.
#3. KinnPorsche
KinnPorsche is one of the greatest ongoing BLs today, and it deserves all the praise it can receive. Every episode is filled with rollercoaster emotions, which makes me eagerly anticipate future happenings. I felt every emotion shown by the characters, whether it was intense humor or love passages, thanks to the excellent acting skills. Apart from having a single episode per week, I have no complaints with this BL. It was wonderful to witness the varied sides of their personality while they were secluded from their lifestyles in the most recent episode. In episode 6, these characters were given greater depth to make them more approachable in real life. As of now, I'm enjoying every single scene of KinnPorsche, and I'm hoping that this series will maintain its film-like quality till the end.
#4. Cupid's Last Wish
I actually put this on hold after watching till the third episode since I intend to binge watch it after the season finale next week. The body swap trope isn't the ideal idea for a BL, and I believe many fans are turned off by it. This was seen with The Shipper from 2020, which, although beginning as a good series, ended up being rather horrible. The wonderful thing about Cupid's Last Wish is that we got to see the series through Korn's eyes. Although the narrative revolves around Win and Lin swapping bodies, it was never an issue since Korn sees Lin as Win because to his personality and, of course, his feelings. The adventurous narrative also piques the curiosity of viewers because it is unusual for a BL. Cupid's Last Wish is a unique story featuring a heartfelt love story.
#5. DNA Says Love You
I just finished watching the first episode last night, and it looks promising. At first, I assumed the plot would be loaded with suspenseful situations, but it turns out to be a romantic comedy series. Although I admit that the series did not initially appeal to me since several scenes made me grimace, there is something about it that makes me want to see it through to the conclusion. Because I've only watched the first episode, there may be a lot of other parts from the subsequent episodes that make me want to suggest it to everyone, but for now, I'll try to watch it first to have a good understanding of the story.
#6. Plus & Minus
Plus & Minus is yet another Taiwanese BL that I'm starting to watch this week. I watched the first episode of DNA Says Love You as well, and to be honest, I like it over the former. My first impression of the first couple is that I like them and that they have chemistry with one another. Since they didn't communicate with each other in the first episode, there's still something I need to observe first with the second couple. It's intriguing to see a plot centered on attorneys, as this is something I only see in Korean dramas. Overall, Plus & Minus is an entertaining BL series with fascinating characters.
#7. Theory of Love
Don't get me wrong, I completed watching this series in 2019, but there was something about it that compelled me to watch it again almost three years later. I know there are a lot of fantastic BLs out there, both old and new, but I've been missing watching BLs with unrequited love themes, and Theory Of Love is the perfect series for that. Because it was so realistic and the cast was good at the time, this series was my favorite BLs of 2019. I fell in love with the official soundtracks as well, and I still listen to them on repeat whenever I can. I adore how this series was created, and it's still one of my favorites, despite the fact that new BLs are being released with better stories and execution.
Aside from these BLs, there are a number of ongoing shows that may appeal to you depending on their stories. I actually placed Dear Doctor and Cutie Pie on hold since I want to try some other BLs. Which of these BL are you keeping an eye on? Let us know in the comments section below. Thank you for stopping by! That's all for now, and I'll see you on the next one.
