The 8 Most Underappreciated BL Series of All Time!

The 8 Most Underappreciated BL Series of All Time!

Popular and praised BL series are generally the talk of the town, but there are those that are BL community hidden gems. In this blog, we will discuss some of the BL Series, which I believe are frequently overlooked yet deserve to be so popular. If you have any recommendations for BL dramas, please leave them in the comments area below. Let's get started without further ado!

#1. To Sir, With Love

This is not your typical BL series that concentrates on the romance of the main pair, but rather on the family's whole journey. It's Jam and Film's first BL, and they showed a lot of chemistry despite the fact that their interactions were quite limited as compared to conventional BL dramas. Thian, the eldest son of the Song family, who owns a large number of enterprises in the country, is the protagonist of To Sir, With Love. However, being gay is forbidden in the Chinese family and disqualifies one from being the next leader. With the revelation that Thian is gay, he is caught between carrying on his father's heritage and pursuing his own happiness. This series had a high rating, yet just a few people discuss it on various social media networks. This is an underappreciated BL series. To Sir, With Love is available on YouTube.

#2. Triage

Combining the Medical Romance and Fantasy genres in a BL is unheard of, yet Triage pulled it off with flying colors. This is one of the rare BLs with a fantastic premise and storyline but failed to gain popularity. One of the key reasons is that the worldwide release was restricted in time, thus interfans couldn't view it on the official streaming site outside of the time constraint. Triage tells the narrative of Tin, who becomes trapped in a time loop after failing to save the life of a pupil named Tol. Tin is confronted by the same sequence upon awakening and will only be liberated if he saves Tol's life. The narrative is really engaging, and there is a terrific main pair who has a lot of chemistry onscreen. Triage is exclusively available on AIS Play.

#3. Laws of Attraction

Laws of Attraction was one of the BLs that helped make 2023 a lovely year. Unlike their previous BL effort, Laws of Attraction follows the same format as several BL dramas, focusing on the romance while keeping the plot's significance. Although the law genre was only displayed for a short time, I want to see a full-fledged Law BL Series in the near future. Tinn, an average young guy, seeks justice for his niece after an alleged vehicle accident in Laws of Attraction. Charn, a vicious lawyer who believes that money and power are the keys to happiness, decides to assist Tinn in their lawsuit after being dismissed as the senator's official counsel as retaliation. Charn and Tinn will find themselves in an unexpected scenario after discovering the truth about Tonkhao's death. Laws of Attraction may be found on iQiYi and YouTube.

#4. Old Fashion Cupcake

Old Fashion Cupcake is one of the greatest and most wholesome Japanese BL series I've ever seen, and I'm still hoping for a future sequel. Even with their age difference in real life and in the story itself, the interactions between Takeda and Kimura are interesting. Old Fashion Cupcake tells the story of Nozue, a 39-year-old man whose life revolves solely on sleep, wakefulness, and employment. Togawa, his 29-year-old subordinate, discovers his routine and quickly invites Nozue to accompany him to a pancake store without regard for the others. The two continue to spend time together until they realize their feelings for one another are more than just a boss-subordinate connection. Old Fashion Cupcake is available on Viki and GaGaOOLala.

#5. About Youth

Taiwanese BL dramas are frequently overhyped, yet About Youth is one of the few that is underappreciated in terms of popularity and ratings. It's a coming-of-age drama that's still somewhat realistic in terms of real-life events, which is one of the things that makes it so excellent. About Youth tells the narrative of Ye Guang, an elite and popular student who prioritizes excellent marks due of his parents, and Xu Qi Zhang, a regular student who, except while playing on stage with his band, blends into the background. Xu Qi Zhang meets Ye Guang in order to return his compassion during one of his worst nights. Their newfound relationship may lead to something more romantic. This series also has a side couple, and their chemistry is off the charts! About Youth is available to view on Viki, GaGaOOLala, and YouTube.

#6. The Day I Loved You

Unlike in 2020, I seldom appreciate any Filipino BL drama, however The Day I Loved You piqued my curiosity after viewing the first episode. The connection between the three main characters is undeniable, and I appreciated that this is a love triangle, which is my favorite type. The Day I Loved You tells the story of Eli, a new student at school who is also a troublemaker. When he is chastised, he is instructed to help Nikko with the preparations for the forthcoming school prom. The two don't get along at first because of Eli's intransigence, but everything changes as they share a dance. The Day I Loved You is available on YouTube.

#7. Life Love on the Line

Life Love on the Line is another Japanese BL on my list that everyone should watch. It not only highlighted the love between the two main characters from the beginning, but it also delivered by telling us a story that portrays the reality of LGBTQ+ relationships. Life Love on the Line tells the narrative of Akira and Yuuki, who meet by coincidence while strolling on the white line on the sidewalk. Their sentiments begin to develop as they draw closer to one other. Aside from Cherry Magic, this is by far my favorite Japanese BL. Life Love on the Line is available on Viki and WeTV.

#8. The Miracle of Teddy Bear

It is not an underappreciated series in terms of popularity, but rather owing to its poor web ratings. Because of the excellent writing, this is one of the most unified storylines and plots. The ending may not be to everyone's taste, but it earns great marks for its originality and narrative. The narrative of Tofu, a big teddy bear that suddenly changes into a person, is told in The Miracle of Teddy Bear. Tofu makes an attempt to recall his past, but to no effect. Tofu later becomes Nut's love interest, but as his time as a human expires, the two must uncover the terrible mysteries of their history. The Miracle of Teddy Bear is available on Netflix.

Underrated BL series are sometimes overlooked despite having outstanding stories and storylines, therefore having this type of segment allows people to rediscover their hidden jewels. Which of these underappreciated BL series do you prefer? Thank you for taking the time to read this! That's all for now; see you on the next one.
