8 New BL Series Premiering in August 2025 That You Should Check Out!
The final week of July is just around the corner, and while this month has delivered an impressive selection of BL series, August is shaping up to be an outstanding candidate for the best month of the year! In this post, we’ll explore the upcoming BL series to catch in August, along with some new titles set to debut later this month. If there are any titles I've overlooked in this list, please feel free to mention them in the comments below. Now, without further delay, let’s dive straight into the blog.
#1. SECRET LOVER
Although it's not formally included in our August lineup of upcoming BL series, I wanted to mention it since it just premiered last Tuesday. At the time of this writing, the show has already released 2 out of its 12 episodes, and it's looking like a solid series. I’ve watched the trailer, and I can say that the tension and storyline are definitely present; I just hope the execution lives up to expectations, as it seems promising. In terms of visuals, there's no comparison. Secret Lover tells the story of Han Tou and Jun Xi, childhood friends whose close relationship begins to change when they appear together in a university play. What begins as fun "relationship training" evolves into something genuine, as Jun Xi gradually falls for Tou's sincere affection and they discover a new kind of love. Secret Lover can be streamed on iQiYi and YouTube.
#2. MY MAGIC PROPHECY
After waiting a couple of months, I’m thrilled that My Magic Prophecy will be premiering very soon! The main reason for my excitement about this BL series is the return of Jimmy and Sea as the lead couple. It's been over a year, yet the enchantment of their previous series still resonates, so I have great expectations for this new project. Additionally, it appears there will be some supernatural themes involved, at least based on the teasers, although there could be unexpected developments in the plot once it premieres. Lastly, I can’t believe that Sea will have so many romantic interests in this series, including First and Junior. There's a lot of promise in this BL show, and I’m eager to see how it plays out. My Magic Prophecy tells the story of Dr. Thapfah, a doubtful ICU doctor who disregards horoscopes and fate until a series of unfortunate events start to endanger his life. Alarmed by warnings from his sister's clairvoyant best friend Inthu, Thapfah is reluctantly compelled to leave the city with Inthu’s assistance, entering a realm of destiny he never acknowledged. My Magic Prophecy will start airing on July 27 on YouTube and VIU.
#3. DOGBRO
When it comes to cuteness, this upcoming BL is likely the best option for a wholesome detox. Having adorable little stories is already enough to create an enjoyable show, but including a lot of puppies is definitely the icing on the cake. The official trailer has revealed possible dynamics between the couples in this series, so it ultimately hinges on the execution to determine if it will be successful. DogBro tells the story of Meen, a committed medical student whose life takes a turn when he's asked to look after Tul, an engineering freshman facing hidden challenges. As they cohabitate and develop a closer bond, Meen must decide whether to follow his heart or keep things platonic to safeguard their futures. DogBro is set to premiere on YouTube on July 27.
#4. I'M THE MOST BEAUTIFUL COUNT
If you could hear me yelling after watching the official trailer, you’d probably all be deaf by now. Jokes aside, I have a strong feeling that this series will be the most impressive in terms of execution and plot twists, and I'm eager to experience it all. Nut possesses a unique charm that captivates me, making me excited to watch the series as soon as the premiere episode is released. The rest of the cast also brings an energy that keeps me curious and engaged. I must admit, the official trailer reignited my enthusiasm after glimpsing the potential for Nut to showcase different personas. I’m really hoping that everything unfolds well for this series and that fans will enjoy it once it starts airing. I'm The Most Beautiful Count tells the story of Prince, a renowned actor who comes out as queer and quickly ascends to fame. His life takes an unexpected turn when he finds himself in the body of a dashing nobleman in the Thongburi Kingdom of the past. I'm The Most Beautiful Count will debut on August 1 on iQiYi.
#5. SHINE
WeTV has once again delivered with a new original series, this time featuring one of the most cherished on-screen BL couples—Mile and Apo. It has been three years since they last starred in a series together. They appeared in a film in 2023, which, thankfully, has also just been released on Netflix. Honestly, I’m not particularly fond of storylines set in the 60s or 70s, likely because I’m not that interested in that period. The official trailer doesn’t help me determine whether I’m genuinely intrigued by the story or just drawn in by the main actors. Ultimately, it comes down to how effectively the story is executed. Shine tells the story of Trin, a principled economist, and Thanwa, a free-spirited hippie, whose differing worlds collide during the politically charged years of 1969 to 1971. Shine is scheduled to premiere on August 2 on WeTV.
#6. KHEMJIRA
With Khemjira finally set to release this August, my challenge now is figuring out how to watch it alone at night. The horror genre genuinely frightens me on many levels, but for the sake of the main cast, I'll have to confront it regardless. In terms of plot, this series feels reminiscent of an early Halloween special, yet it’s evident that the romantic element isn't overlooked. The chemistry between the main couple feels very natural, so I'm eager to see how both genres will be interwoven. Khemjira tells the story of Khem, a boy born into a family cursed with the fate of sons dying before they reach twenty. To shield him from this, his mother names him Khemjira, which means "forever safe," a name he believes in until his nineteenth birthday nears and destiny starts to reveal itself. Khemjira will premiere on August 9 on iQiYi.
#7. FLAVOR OF US
I can't recall if I viewed the official pilot trailer last year, but everything about this series seems quite fresh to me. To be honest, the storyline is fairly intriguing, and there are three primary couples to anticipate in this series. I must admit—I find the other two couples more captivating, likely because they exhibit stronger acting abilities. It becomes evident at certain moments, which causes me to lose focus on the narrative itself. Given that it has been a year since the pilot trailer, I genuinely hope the actual series exceeds expectations, as I believe all of them are worth watching. Flavor of Us tells the tale of Meekhun, a renowned food critic who inherits his grandfather's island restaurant just when he's struggling under his mother's significant debt. Although he wishes to sell the establishment, he is compelled to manage it for a year first, and his greatest challenge isn't the business itself, but rather the obstinate chef his grandfather insisted must remain. Flavor of Us is expected to premiere sometime in August.
#8. LOVE SEA (JP)
Similar to Love in the Air, Love Sea is the upcoming BL novel by Mame that will receive a Japanese adaptation. Currently, there is no official trailer available, so keep an eye out for its release. Love Sea is scheduled to premiere on August 12.
I’m so excited for the new BL series coming out later this month and in August. Which new BL series have piqued your interest? I appreciate you taking the time to read this! That’s all for now, and I’ll see you next time.
