My All-Time Top 10 BL Series Recommendations (Updated 2021)
It's been a long since I've written my own comments on one of this website's blogs. When I first became a fan of BL a few years ago, I never imagined that the business would grow to such proportions. The BL business has produced a lot of lovely stories in the previous several years, even if they aren't technically flawless. In this blog, I'll provide my own Top 10 BL Series of all time, based only on personal choice rather than flawlessness. I'd appreciate it if you could also share your favorite BL series in the comments area below. Let's get started without further ado.
#1. Sotus/Sotus S
Despite the fact that these two BL series were launched in 2016 and 2017, they are still among my favorites since they introduced me to the world of BL. If it hadn't been for Sotus, I would not have been as passionate about the BL series that followed. To be honest, the quality of these two might not be as good as some of the most recent BLs produced in the last two to three years. However, Sotus and Sotus S have a timeless quality about them that makes them suitable for newcomers to BL dramas. Even in today's BLs, the legendary BL pair - Kongpob and Arthit - remains one of my favorite BL couples since they looked amazing together and had an enemies-to-lovers tale. Aside from that, their relationship was timely because of society's acceptance of homosexual couples at the time. Both Sotus and Sotus S are still fantastic BL shows to binge watch every now and then in 2021.
#2. I Told Sunset About You
I Told Sunset About You is still closer to my heart than I Promised You the Moon, despite the fact that the sequel to this BL was released a few months ago. It usually happens with sequels to series or even movies because the introduction of the characters is more interesting than the story's continuation. I Told Sunset About You is still one of my Top 5 BLs of all time, over a year after its debut, not just because of its plot but also because of the production quality. This BL's cinematography is among the greatest I've seen in a BL, which added to its appeal. Teh and Oh's journey is not without blemishes, but luckily, they were able to express what their hearts truly desired.
#3. A Tale of Thousand Stars
Due to its unique narrative and location, GMMTV's debut BL, which aired in 2021, is undoubtedly the finest of the year. With over two years in the process due to a 2019 delay, supporters were beginning to lose faith that this BL would ever see the light of day. Fortunately, A Tale of a Thousand Stars debuted in January 2021, making our wait worthwhile. The story of Phupha and Tian is unusual since we're used to hearing about love stories between engineering or medical students that generally take place within campuses. This time, we were treated to stunning cinematography and breathtaking views of Thailand's countryside. In the near future, A Tale of Thousand Stars will be the new standard for BLs.
#4. Until We Meet Again
Until We Meet Again is a BL drama that deserves to be acknowledged for its originality and lovely plot. It was one of the most anticipated BL series of its time, due to fresh onscreen pairings and, of course, an intriguing narrative. It was released in 2019. Some BL fans have previously criticized this BL for its continuous drama and some scenes that are too long for them. Despite the critiques, Until We Meet Again weathered the test of time and became one of the greatest BLs released in 2019. The reincarnation tale was very interesting. I hope that future BLs will likewise feature a plot that is unique.
#5. Theory of Love
Off and Gun are the only GMMTV onscreen BL pair that are still performing BL programs after a great career. That is why I have always admired their work, particularly their BL efforts, such as Theory of Love. This BL wasn't the best portrayal of a relationship, but situations like this do happen in real life. Apart from the finale, as much as we despised Khai for being a poisonous person, it was done with such honesty. Another aspect of Theory of Love that drew me in was its official soundtrack, which added to the drama of the show. My OffGun heart is screamin' for excitement as Not Me is set to arrive in theaters towards the end of 2021.
#6. He's Coming To Me
Peach of Time is the only BL that comes close to matching He's Coming To Me. Both ghost characters are key narrative characters in these two BLs, albeit they have their own moments in the program. The honesty with which the main characters' thoughts were expressed was one of my favorite aspects of this BL. Despite the fact that Mes was a ghost, Thun loved him unreservedly as if he were real. In addition, the actors in this play had outstanding acting performances, which enhanced the whole experience. He's Coming To Me was released in 2019, yet it's still one of the greatest BL films available today.
#7. Cherry Magic
Cherry Magic is one of my favorite BL series, which comes as no surprise. This is owing to the fact that it is a TV series that anybody, whether a BL fan or not, can readily suggest. The funny sequences made me laugh out loud and set the tone for the rest of the day. The spooky premise mixed with the light tale made this BL series stand out. Of course, not everyone was enthralled by the plot, but Cherry Magic was a unique narrative that was brilliantly presented to the audience.
#8. Like In The Movies
I never expected a Filipino BL to steal my heart and stay with me forever, but Like In The Movies was a great series that deserves to be known worldwide. Despite the controversy, Like In The Movies was a lovely narrative that touched many individuals in our neighborhood. The earnestness behind this presentation was apparent, even if it wasn't flawless. After more than a year, I'm still waiting for the sequel to Like In The Movies to find out whether Karl and Vlad are truly meant to be together or not.
#9. Life Love On The Line
Despite the fact that this BL only has four episodes, it is one of the rare BLs that contains a comprehensive plot. Our primary characters' connection was highly thorough from the start, to the point that their personalities were given ample growth throughout the episode. The conclusion was also quite nice since it depicted one of the most difficult aspects of a gay relationship. In general, Life Love on the Line was created to symbolize the community.
#10. Light On Me
Light On Me is the most recent BL to be added to this list. Apart from To My Star, it's one of the most polished Korean BLs in my opinion, and it's a genuinely great program. To be honest, Light On Me is still not up to pace with other Korean dramas, despite the fact that those have more budgets. I'm still hoping for a popular Korean drama with BL couples in the not-too-distant future. In 2021, Light On Me stepped up their game, which is fantastic news for the forthcoming BL series.
Because there are so many other programs that need to be acknowledged, picking a Top 10 of my most favorite or recommended BL series of all time is difficult. Dark Blue Kiss, HIStory 3: Trapped, The Best Story, Lovely Writer, Manner of Death, TharnType, and many others are among my honorable mentions. In the meanwhile, here is my own list of suggestions. Thank you for taking the time to read this! That's all for now, and I'll see you on the next one.
There are BL lovers from all around the world! What nation do you come from when you read this blog?
