Ranking the BL Series 2022 Masterpieces (Top 12 BL Series 2022)
Ranking the BL Series 2022 Masterpieces (Top 12 BL Series 2022)
Every year, we acquire high and quality BL series from many countries and genres in the BL World. It all depends on our tastes, but certain BLs manage to exceed our expectations, regardless of whether we love such kind of shows. In this blog, I'll rank my favorite BL series masterpieces from various eras and compare them to one another. If you have your own set of BL masterpieces, please share them in the comments section below. Let's get straight into the blog without further ado.
#12. GAMEBOYS (2020)
Gameboys The Series is undoubtedly one of the top BLs of 2020. When the epidemic struck two years ago, the BL series became a scapegoat for what was going on in the world. Gameboys aired at the appropriate moment with the correct premise, and a lot of BL fans enjoyed it. The narrative of two lovers who came to know one other in the thick of the epidemic was something we hadn't seen before Gameboys. Even though there wasn't much physical touch between the two major characters, their chemistry was fantastic. One of the main reasons why Gameboys became a global sensation at the time was because of the acting performance.
#11. HE'S COMING TO ME (2019)
Even though this Thai BL was released three years ago, it is still one of the greatest series available to watch in 2022. Although the tale was a little straightforward, the mystery theme kept a lot of BL fans interested. The narrative was a little different back then since we didn't have many stories concerning university students. However, because it contained a mystery involving a deceased person, it drew a lot of interest in terms of how it would vary from other BL series. He's Coming To Me is one of those dramas that I could watch over and over again, not only because of the tale, but also because of the outstanding performances of the key characters.
#10. THEORY OF LOVE (2019)
Unrequited love tales have always been my go-to anytime I'm looking for anything to watch or read. That trope is unquestionably my favorite because it is unique in comparison to others. Due to its straightforward premise and primary characters, Theory Of Love has long been one of my favorite BL series. Although certain parts were a little toxic for me, it is something that happens in real life as a result of our folly when it comes to love. Theory Of Love isn't the finest of the bunch, but it's one of the BLs that has a special place in my heart.
#9. LIKE IN THE MOVIES (2020)
I fell in love with this BL the moment I put my eyes on it. Not only because of the beauty of the main performers, but also because of how it dealt with many LGBT concerns. Like In The Movies is a simple narrative about two guys who live together and pretend to be boyfriends, but their predicament was far more complicated. It's not easy being a secret homosexual man, especially when we're surrounded by judgemental people. The entire plot was pleasant, despite the open conclusion.
#8. SOTUS (2016)
When I initially started watching BLs, this Thai BL was one of the first few that I viewed. Because of its enormous success not just in Thailand but also internationally, I always regard Sotus to be one of the BLs that changed the industry. Even though this BL was released in 2016, it remains one of the greatest I've seen, even when compared to current releases. Kongphob and Arthit are already legends in the BL world, and will continue to be for many years to come.
#7. SEMANTIC ERROR (2022)
Korean BLs are famed for their creative plots, yet they constantly fall short in execution. Because of how amazing the tale was and how well the characters were executed, Semantic Error managed to exceed my expectations. Because of their fantastic chemistry, the main characters have quickly become my new favorite pair. I'm still hopeful for a continuation of this narrative in the near future, despite the conclusion we got.
#6. A TALE OF THOUSAND STARS (2021)
If A Tale Of Thousand Stars isn't included, this list of classics will be incomplete. The year 2021 began with A Tale Of Thousand Stars, which had a lot of positive aspects for a BL. Because we were moving away from academic BL stories, this BL seemed more like a cultural reset. Despite the fact that this was Earth and Mix's first project together, the level of chemistry they had in this series was incredible. Their acting talents complemented their roles and made a favorable impression on the audience. A Tale Of Thousand Stars is a sincere, true love story that defies social expectations.
#5. CHERRY MAGIC (2020)
Cherry Magic absolutely hit the nail on the head for me as a lover of romantic comedy shows. Although I appreciate the serious drama sequences in the BL series, I prefer the romance comedy scenes since they provide me with comfort and joy when I watch them. Cherry Magic also added something fresh to the table by including the supernatural genre, which made a significant impact in the whole plot. Even though they didn't have a kiss throughout the story, the main characters had strong chemistry.
#4. BAD BUDDY (2021)
I expected the tale to include some big drama parts when I first watched the teaser for this series, but I didn't anticipate it to be anything else. The book version was more mature in terms of scene selection, but I preferred the series version since the narrative matched Ohm and Nanon's personalities better. Their chemistry was incredible, and we could tell it was entirely natural. Despite the fact that there won't be a season 2 anytime soon, I hope Ohm and Nanon have another series as the main pair.
#3. LIGHT ON ME (2021)
This BL is my all-time favorite Korean BL, and I'm not sure why I feel so strongly about it. I suppose it was because it was different from a lot of other Korean BLs, and the tale was much lengthier than most. The main characters' love triangle was executed flawlessly, dividing the audience into two. I'm still hoping for a second season of this show, this time with Da On as the main character.
#2. NOT ME (2021)
The series recently concluded, and I believe it is the finest BL series that GMMTV has ever produced. Because societal themes are addressed in the series, Not Me is more than just a BL. Aside from the pioneering narrative and scenes, the key characters' acting talents were all outstanding, and they had a significant influence on the entire plot of the show. In comparison to their previous series as a couple, Off and Gun have improved their game, and Not Me demonstrates that they are always on top.
#1. I TOLD SUNSET ABOUT YOU (2020)
This Thai BL only had 5 episodes, but they were more than enough to portray the narrative and their tribulations. Because of the high quality of everything it received, this BL is still at the top of my rankings. The cinematography was among the greatest I've ever seen in a BL, to the point that I thought it was movie-quality. The acting was also top-notch, making it more relatable for the audience. Despite the fact that I Told Sunset About You was released about two years ago, it is still the series to beat for me.
This is only my own ranking of the BLs that I regard to be masterpieces. There are still a lot of incoming series in 2022 that might change this ranking. I'm hoping that subsequent BLs will enhance their quality even more, and that the storylines will be more distinctive. Thank you for taking the time to read this. That's all for now, and I'll see you on the next one.
