The Top 12 Best BL Series (2022)
The Top 12 Best BL Series (2022)
BL series are not all made equal, and most of the time, we have certain genre preferences or themes that we haven't seen before. In this blog, I'll share with you my Top 12 most favorite BL Series of all time, as well as why they are my faves, since I began watching BLs. In the comments box below, you may also share your favorite BLs. Let's get straight into the blog without further ado.
#12. THEORY OF LOVE
Theory Of Love is usually one of my favorite BL dramas of all time whenever I make this type of blog. Clearly, it wasn't the greatest on the list, but I still like the narrative of this BL over three years after it was released. In terms of drama, the narrative provided us with some of the most unforgettable sorrowful passages, and it was certainly rewarding technically, despite the fact that my heart ached after watching it. Aside from that, OffGun probably provided their greatest performances for this BL, and I enjoyed seeing them together in moments, whether romantic or dramatic. You could find a lot of other BLs with better plots and execution than this one, but it took me on a rollercoaster ride while watching it.
#11. LIGHT ON ME
Despite the fact that there have been many Korean BLs released in the last two years, there are only four titles with which I have a connection, and Light On Me is one among them. Light On Me was one of my favorites from last year, owing to its uniqueness in comparison to other Korean BLs. I fell in love with the characters and story the first time I saw it last year, and I knew it would end beautifully. I also enjoyed the mystery behind Tae Kyung's boyfriend at the start, which contributed to the story's depth. Some may claim that Light On Me is merely a typical high school love story, but it was a journey of friendships, personalities, and affection for me.
#10. SOTUS
This was my first experience to the BL series, and I've enjoyed it ever since. SOTUS was ahead of its time, and its popularity has opened the way for many BL productions over the last half-decade. In comparison to most current titles, it will undoubtedly fall behind in terms of quality and execution, but the delight of watching it six years ago was unmatched. Because of this series, I've met a lot of people I would never have met otherwise. Even in 2022, I find this BL interesting, and I believe this series will never get old. Aside from the love story, the story of a true friendship was one of my favorite aspects of this series. It included a diverse cast of personalities, but at its heart was their friendship.
#9. A TALE OF THOUSAND STARS
A Tale Of Thousand Stars is an obvious choice for me if I'm seeking for a genuine love story. Because of how amazing and well-developed the plot is, I always consider this series to be a milestone in the BL industry. Earth and Mix had a tremendous connection as a first-time BL couple, and it helped to deliver the series in a realistic manner. The drama of A Tale Of Thousand Stars was intense, yet I never got tired of anticipating what would happen next in the plot.
#8. CHERRY MAGIC
Since the first moment I saw the first episode, I've been a huge fan of this show. The narrative drew me in right away, and the main characters' chemistry was fantastic. Aside from the endearing characters, I appreciated how the series blended humor with supernatural elements, making it really interesting and delightful. I don't think this series is perfect, but its sense of comedy is something I look for in a BL. Cherry Magic exceeded my expectations, proving that Japanese BLs are well worth my time.
#7. NOT ME
Not Me was one of the most thrilling and fascinating series I've watched this year. This series is a masterpiece in my opinion since it had a fantastic concept and execution and didn't only focus on love stories. There are couples in this series, however they are merely a part of the story rather than the entire story. I really liked how they addressed a variety of societal topics that are still relevant in today's society. I think the conclusion was done well, yet it left me wanting more because it was more of an open ending.
#6. I TOLD SUNSET ABOUT YOU
I Told Sunset About You is one of the finest series I've ever watched in terms of narrative, photography, and production. It was a significant step forward from previous BL series when it first aired, showing that the industry could go even further. The main characters' chemistry is undeniable, and every moment they performed was breathtaking. Although this series had a lot of drama, it was necessary to fully convey the backstories of the main characters. Its soundtracks were among the greatest I'd ever heard, and I still listen to them again and then. I Told Sunset About You set the bar extremely high, and it was a genuine wonderful love story experience.
#5. MR. UNLUCKY HAS NO CHOICE
Although the series has not yet ended, I am enjoying the narrative. For others, it may simply be a comedic BL show, but for me, it's more about showing a person's morals. Fukuhara is just unlucky, but it is never ethical to take advantage of another person for your own benefit. Shinomiya, fortunately, is an understanding and sympathetic person who would go to any length for Fukuhara. The story's execution may be light, but the story's overall theme is significant.
#4. BAD BUDDY
This BL series made me laugh out loud, and I still smile when I recall Pat and Pran's wonderful times. Although the main characters' drama in the novel version was somewhat intense, the series version was much lighter. There was very little conflict, and the most of the moments were devoted with Pat and Pran admiring each other. The narrative began with some tension, but as the series progressed, the tension gradually faded and was replaced by joyous moments. I'd want to see this narrative continue, although the ending was very good.
#3. SEMANTIC ERROR
Because of the enduring chemistry of the main leads, this Korean BL easily exceeded several of my favorite BLs. The narrative is simple, yet it allowed me focus on the main couple's love story. It was an obvious choice for me as a fan of the enemies to lovers trope, and I fell in love with the narrative right away. The premise of the live adaptation was somewhat constrained due to the fact that the manhwa version had not yet been completed, but the series did an excellent job of closing up the story. I really liked how Semantic Error ended, but I'm still hoping for a second season.
#2. THE MIRACLE OF TEDDY BEAR
Because of the story and premise, I believe this BL series is one of my favorites. This series began with a much more upbeat tone, but it ended tragically. It's not that having a terrible conclusion is bad, but I was so immersed in the characters that I adored them. Nut and Tofu were a terrific match, but some things are just not meant to be. Despite the fact that it is a fantasy series, the quantity of societal topics shown was astounding. Tofu, whether human or teddy bear, was truly a miracle in Nut's life.
#1. KINNPORSCHE
It's still airing, and we've only seen the first half of the season, but it's already climbed to the top of my list. KinnPorsche clearly outperforms several BL series in terms of production, and it's one of the greatest attributes I've ever seen. Despite the fact that the main protagonists are surrounded by a lot of action and combat sequences, there is still time for them to explore their love for one other. This series has excellent quality throughout. The tension between characters rises with each new episode, and I'm looking forward to seeing how the story unfolds in the future. KinnPorsche is a work of art.
These 12 BL series were a lot of fun to watch, and I'm hoping for more fantastic shows and stories in the future. Which BL is your personal favorite? Thank you for stopping by! That's all for now, and I'll see you on the next one.
