The 6 BL Series I'm Watching Right Now (July 2022)
The 6 BL Series I'm Watching Right Now (July 2022)
There are now several BL series on the air, but only six of them are on my watchlist. For myself, I want to see how those BLs with various stories and unique genres stack up against one another so I can enjoy each one without becoming bored because they are all different from one another. I'll be posting my July watchlist on this blog, along with my reasoning for favoring some shows over others. Feel free to share your watchlist with us in the comments section if you have one. Let's start the blog straight now without further ado.
#1. SENPAI, THIS CAN'T BE LOVE!
I've always loved Japanese BL series, and I believe I'm starting to feel the same way about this one. Even though the third episode of Senpai, This Can't Be Love was only uploaded on the GagaOOLala platform last Friday, I've already seen the first two. This BL series has a straightforward plot yet the special charm of Japanese BL makes it very difficult to ignore. The tone and setting of the story were set in the first two episodes, and the chemistry between the two main characters is one of the things I truly admire about this show. Although the first few scenes may be mistaken for any other enemies-to-lovers narrative, it's good to know that this one is unique. A particularly unexpected aspect of the story is Kaneda's secret affection for Yanase, and I'm looking forward to seeing how that plays out in the next episodes of the drama. Since there are just 8 episodes in this entire series, the plot may go along a little more quickly.
#2. TO MY STAR 2
To My Star's second season has already concluded since last week. When I first started watching this show, I was shocked by what happened in the relationships of the main characters, and it grieved me for a while. Since the first season ended beautifully, I never anticipated that this season's level of angst would be so intense. Even though there was a great scene at the conclusion of the series, I'm still puzzled. The fact that the plot rarely advances in Season 2 of BLs makes me not particularly fond of it. But To My Star 2 is rather different for me because I'm still interested in the main characters and I'd be happy to know how it ends, despite the painfully long journey.
#3. SKY IN YOUR HEART
Initially, I had intended to binge watch every episode of this series immediately following the finale, but I think it would be best to just stick with the plot. Unexpectedly, the connection between Fah and Prince is what has me so interested in the plot. The comedy scenes may occasionally be over the top, but I can't deny that the main characters are doing a wonderful job of getting me excited about what their love story will include in the future. My attention was piqued by the contrast between their personas at the start of the series, especially Prince whose past is so mysterious. I'm on the episode 6, and every time there are so many love scenes on the screen, I find myself giggling. Sky In Your Heart may not be my favorite of the bunch, but I think you should see it.
#4. MY SECRET LOVE
First off, the concept and plotline of this series are nothing really ground-breaking, yet there is something about it that immediately drew me in. All of the characters in the series have charming and awkward moments, but I don't give it a second thought because I watch this show to have fun and laugh. However, I continue to find the chancellor's role to be rather troubling, and anything she did did not sit well with me at all. My Secret Love fits that pattern and offers a light overall story if the enemies to lovers theme is your fave.
#5. TRIAGE THE SERIES
Triage is one of my favorite BLs that is now airing, and it's almost done. We would be able to predict if the time loop would be resolved and the other character-related mysteries with just one episode left, but it is highly improbable. But anything that we hadn't anticipated may happen in the closing seconds, so I'm hoping the conclusion will give us the happy ending we deserve. The main characters' relationship is undeniable, and I believe they are excellent actors and a fantastic fit for their parts. Tol might have started off the series a little bit harshly, but I really like how he and Tin were given a reversal role in the last few episodes. The interconnectedness of each character's stories throughout the series also astounds me, and in my opinion, this is one of the ingredients for being acclaimed as the greatest BL of the year. Another thing is that I adored Dr. Sing and Gap moments in the most recent episode, and I shudder to think how much more I would have adored them had they introduced us to these adorable small moments at the beginning of the series. Triage is my top-rated BL series for this year so far, even though it hasn't been released internationally.
#6. KINNPORSCHE THE SERIES
Once it airs, the inevitable KinnPorsche conclusion will break all previous traffic records, so I hope iQiYi is prepared. In addition to Triage, one of the series I most often suggest to those who like to be excited by every scene is KinnPorsche. The quantity of revelations for the finale that aired last night will undoubtedly bring us to our knees, and while I fear for them, I'm praying that everyone will have a good ending. I wonder whether the series should consider a second season because the book's scenes are so heartbreaking to read that it seems impossible for them to live happy and peaceful lives. Anyway, now that KinnPorsche has ended, I should search for another ongoing BL that would instantly capture my interest, much like KinnPorsche did 14 weeks ago.
And this is my watchlist right now for the month of July! Two of them have already ended, and the third will shortly as well, so I need to start watching more BL dramas to see if there's anything I'm missing. Please list the names of any titles you would want me to watch in the comments section below. I appreciate you reading. I'll see you on the next one, then.
What BL series would you advise I watch? 🏳🌈
