10 New BL Couples Debuting in Thai BL Series in 2023!
It's always thrilling when a new BL series featuring our favorite on-screen BL couple is unveiled. But it's even more thrilling when we receive a new BL series with a fresh on-screen coupling, which piques the viewers' attention. This blog will discuss the ten new BL couples that debuted as the main protagonists in 2023. Just a disclaimer: this list does not cover every new BL couple of 2023 because there are far too many to discuss if we include them all. Let's go straight into the blog, shall we?
#1. Bright & Nonkul (I Feel You Linger In The Air)
Having Nonkul in a BL Series was already startling to me when I first heard about this show a year ago, but it's fantastic to observe the chemistry between Bright and Nonkul in this series. Aside from their stunning appearance, both of them have the personality to entice fans to watch the entire show. Spending more than an hour every episode is a struggle, but with their excellent acting abilities and connection, it's a no-brainer for everyone else. Of course, this BL series is something I would consider a masterpiece of the year, so it's a whole package.
#2. Neo & Mark (Only Friends)
We've been used to seeing Neo partnered with Louis for the previous two years, so seeing him with Mark in Only Friends is both refreshing and startling. Given the show's narrative and concept, the firm did find a compatible coupling with the characters, and both of them exceeded my expectations. Their sequences were also among the spicier in the entire series, but also among the most sorrowful. As of now, the firm has not indicated whether or not they will have a new series next year or whether their coupling will be limited to this series.
#3. Krist & Gawin (Be My Favorite)
This is one of my favorite couples from 2023 since I didn't see it coming and they're both equally amazing at their roles. I've seen some comments that state Krist and Gawin don't have any chemistry, but I think their acting talents made the series even better. I also didn't sense any uneasiness during their amorous encounters, which seemed really natural. However, it appears like Krist and Gawin's pairing will be one-time only, as Gawin will have a new partner in another BL next year. Aside from that, there have been reports and speculations from Krist's fans that he may depart GMMTV because he has no forthcoming shows in 2024. But we'll have to wait and see whether such stories are accurate in the future.
#4. Ohm & Guide (Bake Me Please)
After years of being paired with Fluke, Ohm now has a new partner in Bake Me Please. I've only seen the first episode of Bake Me Please, but I can see there's chemistry between them, albeit it's too early to tell. The first episode was more focused on their enemies to lovers sequences, thus romantic scenes are not yet in the mix. We also know that Ohm has previously been in a number of BL series, so I'd be more excited if his character isn't the typical aloof and chilly figure with a secret history. Nonetheless, I like them as partners, and certain fans enjoy their dynamic in the series.
#5. Net & James (Bed Friend)
This is not NetJames' first series together; as a pair, they appeared in the 2022 Thai drama Call Me Baby. However, Bed Friend is their first BL series as major protagonists, therefore they are included in this list. One thing is evident about this couple's connection. They are most likely one of the industry's most compatible couples, and they are fantastic on-screen. I've been keeping an eye on them since the mini-intro for their series was released in 2021 because I sensed something remarkable about their partnership.
#6. Pavel & Pooh (Pit Babe)
I'm new to the Omegaverse, so the whole Pit Babe thing is a little intimidating to me. But the interactions between Pavel and Pooh are bringing me to life while watching this series. When a BL series has a main and a side couple, the side couple is often significantly more engaging than the main. But this is not the case. Everything about Pavel and Pooh's characters, as well as their hierarchy involving Alpha, Beta, and Omega, is all that counts to me in this one. I simply hope we get to witness more of their interactions.
#7. Perth & Chimon (Dangerous Romance)
In this series, there are a lot of conflicting feelings about Perth and Chimon's chemistry. Some would argue that this was more of a bromance than a romance, while others would argue the opposite. This is most likely owing to the uncomfortable kisses they had in their sequences, as there isn't much tension between their characters. I truly like this BL from start to finish, but my attention waned near the conclusion. The series is still amusing and simple to watch, so whether you enjoy it or not is all dependent on your tastes.
#8. Pee & Title (La Pluie)
This is one of the few BLs this year that has a poor rating but that I enjoyed. Their acting performances aren't fantastic, but they always make me blush when they execute love sequences. Pee and Title are both attractive actors, which is a benefit for everyone. Furthermore, the concept of this BL is actually unique, but the main obstacle was determining how to make it successful. The ending was not what I had imagined, but it was a nice finish for everyone. Despite the poor rating, I'm still hoping for a Season 2.
#9. Man & Ben (Step by Step)
I had great hopes for this BL while it was still on the air, but I abandoned it when I realized it wasn't for me. Man's character Jeng is the most fascinating in the series, aside from his good looks. His perspective was torn between being a boss and a lover, so I'm curious how things would play out after his connection with a subordinate is disclosed in the firm. Ben's character Pat, on the other hand, is somewhat unpleasant, despite the fact that his sentiments were justified. That was undoubtedly owing to his acting skills, but it might also have been due to the execution. The editing, particularly the flashbacks, confused me on the timing of what I was witnessing, making it difficult for me to comprehend what was actually going on.
#10. Gemini & Fourth (My School President)
GMMTV has discovered a new treasure with the coupling of Gemini and Fourth, and I was fortunate enough to see the complete My School President. Their new partnership refreshed the notion of school BL, and the inclusion of music genre made it even more remarkable. I never anticipated this BL to be so fantastic, but it has set a new standard for what I should expect from a school series in the future. I'm looking forward to watching their growth as actors over the coming few years.
