Last Twilight: Episode 12 (Finale) Spoilers

Last Twilight: Episode 12 (Finale) Spoilers

Last Twilight is one of the most talked-about, popular, and greatest GMMTV BLs for 2023-2024 so far. In this blog, I will discuss my review of the series, the differences between the novel and the series, and how the series may conclude based on its novel counterpart. Just a disclaimer: the finale may reveal a different ending, so take this with a grain of salt. Without further ado, let us start our blog.

LAST TWILIGHT REVIEW

Like everyone else, I was one of the few BL fans who anxiously awaited the release of this series based only on what I saw in the trailer. I knew that sort of story would be different, and that's exactly what we're getting right now: a different kind of love story with the same old warm sensation. Last Twilight begins with a love story between a man who is about to go blind and a man with a sad background. Both characters are at their most flawed forms as humans, which makes them extremely vulnerable. But their flaws allow them grow even further and learn from one another, not just to rely on but also to know more about themselves. Aside from the main characters, we have side characters who serve to assist with the main flow of the plot and are not included simply for the purpose of having them. Day's struggle with his buddies may be viewed as one of the hurdles he had to conquer in order to gain trust in those around him. His unrequited love for August was something I didn't expect from the series, but it had an influence on Mhok and helped him understand how much he loved Day. Of fact, Day's hostility against Night is one of the most important subplots in the entire show. It was shown early in the episode, which made sense when the cause for his hate was revealed later in the series. Like everyone else, I'm not a fan of Day's mother and what she's done for his two boys. But I see from her perspective that she simply wanted to protect Day by keeping him within the four confines of his room. I also feel with Night for carrying guilt over what happened to his younger brother, but at least he has learnt from his mistakes and is a lot more responsible brother and son. The story of the series is rather well-written, and I seldom encountered any plot holes in any moments. The director also ensured that the sequences were effective and that the flow was fluid, keeping the audience' interest up to the climax. We've seen this on-screen couple on Vice Versa, and although I thought they were a successful pairing because of their chemistry, others weren't so sure. However, their performances as Day and Mhok demonstrate that the actors are masters of their art, and their chemistry is exhilarating and captivating. Watching all 11 episodes of Last Twilight is enough for me to say that this BL is one of the greatest I've ever watched.

NOVEL VS. SERIES

Right after the teaser was out in 2022, I read the novel equivalent to see what I should expect and if my expectation was justified. Although I've forgotten some of the details because it's been a while, I'll only mention some distinctions between the latter episodes to give you some background on the novel. In the hospital scene as Day is going to remove his bandage from his eyes, Day, like in the series, was not cured of his blindness despite the procedure. His brother Night and his mother left to see the doctor to find out why, leaving Mhok alone in the room with Day. Afterwards, Day addressed Mohk since he had learnt that the latter wasn't telling the truth. In the novel, the hospital scene was where the two broke up since Mhok lied about his job as chef. Day let his phone read aloud a snapshot of Mhok and Singha discussing Mohk's possibility to work abroad as a chef. Mohk declined Singha's request, just as he had throughout the series, due to his reasons for not leaving Day. This enraged Day since he assumed Mhok did not pity him like everyone else, but it turned out that the latter was also the case. Day reminded Mhok of their previous commitment that if he pitied him, the two would part ways. Even though Mhok refused to leave him, Day held firm in his decision to end their relationship. Shortly later, his mother and brother returned to the room, with Day weeping and claiming he couldn't see anything. Despite the differences between the two, the final effect is the same: Day and Mhok split up at the end of the day.

EPISODE 12 SPOILERS

If you don't like spoilers and don't want to know what the novel's probable ending is, you may now leave this site. Following their breakup, Day completed his bachelor's degree on his own over the next two years, according to the novel. Day worked hard to listen to audiobooks and other resources so that he could study on his own. He needs to go forward. The mood at home improves significantly now that Day has forgiven his brother, and his mother has cancelled all of her trips abroad to spend time with them at night. Despite being entirely blind, Day is one of the self-sufficient blind persons who no longer rely on others to get through the day. Day built a bookshop and works part-time as a freelance editor now that the audiobook business has become more viable. One day, Day heard someone enter his business, but he could tell who it was merely by smelling his scent. Day and Mhok had a brief talk thereafter, with the latter wondering whether they might return to the old days. Day rejected this viewpoint, claiming that their lives had improved significantly. He also stated that he cannot continue to be pitied his entire life. Later, the two planned to resume their chat after Day's shift at the shop, so they could meet Night and his mother as well. However, the two were stranded in the elevator owing to severe rains that disrupted the building's power supply. In that moment, the two had another heart-to-heart conversation, with Mhok convincing Day to return with him. Mhok helped Day understand that people make errors and cannot predict the future, but he could only remark that they both chose to love. Mhok also said that he had already visited Day's mother and asked what he should do to gain Day's forgiveness, believing that Day's mother had not yet forgiven her ex-husband. To his astonishment, Day's mother has already forgiven his ex-husband since Day taught her that people make errors, such as what she did to him. Day's heart melted at that time, and he agreed with Mhok to start anew. The two exchanged passionate kisses until his phone vibrated. Day assumed it was his mother who was calling, but he was startled to learn that it was Cornea Donation Center, and he is eligible for another transplant. Fast forward to a point in time when Day regained his vision, however he still had weariness and impaired vision since he hadn't gotten used to seeing again. The family, which included Porjai and her child, celebrated in their modest garden at home. At the time, it was stated that Night and Porjai had been dating for around two to three months. Day's mother was not astonished because she was previously aware of the situation, and she was supportive of Porjai given that she is also a single mother. Later on, Mhok and Day were seen discussing what the sunlight in the book "Last Twilight" signifies. Mhok believed the author was equating his child's diminishing sight to the light of the sun. But for Day, it is hope. Pursuing the brightness of the sun means pursuing the hope of his own life.

Even though Episode 11 finished on a somewhat tragic one, I believe Episode 12 will be worthwhile if it has a good conclusion. I'm only a little unsure whether the series would adapt the moment where Day would be seen again, but who knows what the future holds. What do you believe will happen in the finale? Thank you for reading! That's it, and I'll see you on the next one.
