My 7 Wishful BL Couples for GMMTV's New Upcoming BL Series (Part 2)
My 7 Wishful BL Couples for GMMTV's New Upcoming BL Series (Part 2)
For those who haven't seen it yet, GMMTV has announced that the second part of their event "Up and Above" will take place on April 23. That implies we could see a fresh lineup of BL dramas in the coming months, and most likely next year. In this blog, I will share my wish list of BL couples for their upcoming BL dramas. Without further ado, let us begin.
#01. Tor & Gun
Tor and Gun first appeared in the fantasy series Midnight Museum in 2023, and their characters quickly developed on me. Their characters were not romantically related, but rather through bromance, and their connection was unexpected. I recall only becoming interested in the series because of its plot and genre, but the actors was entertaining to see on a screen. I'm still an avid fan of OffGun, but seeing Gun with a different partner is refreshing to see, and the dynamics are somewhat different from the norm. I understand that Tor and Gun as an on-screen BL couple are now unfeasible owing to Tor's future series from a different studio, but I'm still hoping to see them together again. If TorGun isn't cast as an official on-screen couple, we might as well have a second season of Midnight Museum, regardless of whether it includes a BL plot.
#02. Singto & Krist
Since the announcement of Singto's return to GMMTV after three years away, I've had the impression that GMMTV is going to surprise us with Singto and Krist's new BL. I understand that this is wishful thinking, but getting a new series from the actors that actually saved the firm a few of years ago is certainly doable. Krist did not announce any new shows when Part 1 was produced last year, and the rumored appearance of both actors in Be My Favorite might be a sign of their upcoming return. Krist may no longer have the same appeal among certain BL fans owing to previous troubles, but a new BL series for Krist and Singto is a pleasant surprise for their admirers.
#03. Boun & Prem
Days before the premiere of GMMTV's "Up and Above" Part 2 event, the company introduced a new cast of actors, including Boun and Prem. The two actors are said to be appearing in an upcoming BL show called "Vampire Project," and fortunately, they will continue to play their characters, albeit with a different company. Although some of the recent GMMTV shows have not been very thrilling for me, witnessing Boun and Prem in a GMMTV BL drama is a new experience for me. Aside from that, Boun will write Vampire Project, so I'm hoping that the story will be nice this time around. Unfortunately, we may not see Boun and Prem together again because the latter has intentions to work on projects other than BL dramas. I'm hopeful that GMMTV will provide both actors high-quality, well-written projects.
#04. Perth & Chimon
You might be wondering why I included Perth and Chimon on my wishlist of BL couples for the event, but I believe we should give this couple one final chance. PerthChimon had excellent chemistry in Never Let Me Go, but many fans were disappointed when they appeared in Dangerous Romance last year. Some critics mentioned Chimon's discomfort with his amorous encounters with Perth, which might be related to how his character was portrayed. We should not forget that the series began with bullying scenes, thus a sudden romance between the main characters is strange. Overall, I believe the problem is with the way the story was written and how the plot struggled to move from serious to romantic. I'm hoping that Perth and Chimon are given much better series so that they can prove their chemistry once more; else, their ship will not endure long.
#05. Jimmy & Sea
Last Twilight was one of the highlights in the BL industry last year, therefore it's likely that GMMTV will develop another BL show for Jimmy and Sea. As usual, finale arcs are not GMMTV's strong suit, as a few of fans were dissatisfied with the ending. Jimmy and Sea's chemistry has always been excellent since they first debuted in Vice Versa, yet I believe their most recent drama is a far superior show. Jimmy and Sea have already done fantasy and drama series, so it's fascinating to see what type their next series would be if they are lucky enough to appear in another one. If Jimmy and Sea return in a new drama, I hope it will delight us again, like Last Twilight did two years ago.
#06. First & Khao
This BL couple is undoubtedly one of the most popular in the market right now, and in business, you have to strike while the iron is still hot. GMMTV has granted the actors two dramas in successive years, and that number might rise to three if the studio announces another show in the coming days. If there was one thing I would alter in their future series, it would be a different cliché than enemies to lovers, which we've seen in both The Eclipse and Only Friends. First is also terrific in comedies, as we saw in The Shipper four years ago, so it may be a nice chance to show off their other talents as actors. Khao had already been in 2gether, so a rom-com may be a good choice. Anyway, whatever genre their series may be, acting-wise, they have already shown themselves worthy of watching.
#07. Mark & Ohm
This isn't on my wish list of BL couples in GMMTV's new BL series, but these two actors seem to be gaining popularity by the day. Some fans have already seen clues that the company was prepared to introduce MarkOhm a few months ago through official merchandise. Although I feel Mark's chemistry would work well with anybody, I believe MarkOhm will be worth our attention when their new show is unveiled. I enjoyed the chemistry between Ohm and Sea in Last Twilight, thus having MarkOhm would be fascinating for viewers because it's a new ship. Anyway, if their upcoming series is genuine, I hope it's a well-written BL series.
There are only a few days till the GMMTV Part 2 event, and I'm hoping to see several fantastic pilot trailers and exciting new BL couples there. Which BL couples do you want to see on GMMTV's Up and Above Part 2? Thank you for reading! That's it, and I'll see you on the next one.
