7 Ongoing BL Series to Watch in June 2024!
The year 2024 has been hit-and-miss in terms of the quality of BL dramas, but happily, June has provided us with some excellent BL series to watch on a daily basis. In this blog, I will share with you my current watchlist of BL series, both ongoing and just ended. Just a disclaimer: my reviews are solely based on what I have seen and my personal opinion. I'll also provide my personal ratings to give you a sense of how much I enjoy these BL shows. If you have your own watchlist, feel free to share it in the comments area below. Without further ado, let us begin.
#1. Wandee Goodday
If the series were just judged on its looks, Wandee Goodday would undoubtedly win due to the show's attractive cast. But this series is about more than just the images; the chemistry between the couples is perhaps the greatest I've seen this year, and I can't stop giggling anytime a love scene occurs, particularly between Dee and Yak. These two actors have demonstrated remarkable chemistry on-screen, which is visible throughout the show due to their comfort level with one another. The story of the series is progressively unraveling certain people' dark pasts and secret truths, and I can't wait to see what happens in future episodes. So far, I'm like what I've seen in this series, and I believe it's time to prepare for a more serious tone as the BL finishes. For the time being, I would give this BL a solid 8/10.
#2. We Are
With Only Boo coming to a close in two weeks, I decided to finally take a look at this BL, despite having only seen three episodes so far. Aside from Pond and Phuwin, the other couples lack a working story. But We Are takes a softer approach, focusing solely on these characters falling in love with one another. Unlike other BL dramas in this lineup, we don't need to go deep into the story since what we see is what we receive. On the other hand, I'm curious to see what happens next with Q and Toey because their chemistry in this series has been a revelation for me. Poom and Peem's story is obvious because they are the main story, but the other two couples might be intriguing if given more screen time and their own challenges. For the time being, I'll continue to watch this series to see what this drama has to offer. Based on the three episodes I've seen; I'd give this BL an 8/10 rating.
#3. Only Boo
Only Boo is possibly the most undervalued BL series of 2024 in terms of popularity. Most GMMTV BL series are rather popular among BL fans, but from what I've observed on social media sites, just a few people are talking about it, and GMMTV isn't particularly excited about marketing it. This is most likely owing to the new actors' lack of a strong fan base, as well as the fact that the series is set at a school. The main characters are quite engaging, and while their acting talents might be improved in future ventures, these new actors aren't terrible at their art. I really like Moo because he's always enthusiastic and extra, and I have a feeling he could do more than just a comedy show. On the other side, the actor who portrays Kang is still stiff in some scenes, particularly in the show's heavy drama part, but I believe he has the potential to be an excellent actor if he improves his skills more. In the series itself, I enjoy how the approach is based on teens' perspectives rather than being pushed into maturity. Only Boo stands out from the rest of the lineup since it is crafted as a teenager's romantic drama. The playful personality of the characters makes this series entertaining to watch, yet the plot remains intact to convey the story. I can't believe there are just two episodes left, so I'm hopeful that the finale works well as a finish. With ten episodes in all, I would give this series an 8/10 rating.
#4. Unknown
Two months after the series conclusion of Unknown, I've finally seen all of its episodes, and if I could summarize how I truly feel, it would be cinematic. This series is unquestionably a masterpiece, but what actually distinguished it from the rest was how it told its story. Unknown is not the typical romantic love story that we see on other shows, but rather a life story with a lot to tell its viewers. The characters were simple to relate with since the story had background stories to support them. There is also a struggle between characters that cannot be ignored owing to its complexity, but it is not confusing. It's undoubtedly one of the greatest BL dramas I've watched this year, and by far my favorite Taiwanese BL to date. In conclusion, I would give this series a great 10/10 rating.
#5. My Stand In
This is definitely the current fan favorite among the continuing BL dramas, and I must say that it deserves to be the talk of the town. First and foremost, My Stand In offers a rich plot that keeps it both entertaining and intriguing. The male lead may be one of the biggest red flags I've ever seen in a BL series, but these elements make me wonder what will happen next and whether he's still a redeemable guy. Another point is that the acting performances and chemistry of the main couple are undeniably superb, which makes it easy to appreciate this drama. The episode from last week revealed that Ming wrongly recognized Tong as the one who performed the great scene in his movie, and it's intriguing to see how this affects his relationship with Joe. Overall, I'm enjoying every minute of the drama, so I hope the climax ends on a strong note. For the time being, I'd give this series a solid 9/10.
#6. Love Sea
The first episode of FortPeat's return series has arrived, and I'd like to share my initial impressions. First and foremost, I was impressed by the quality of the cinematography in this one. There were numerous scenes displaying the beauty of nature, which was pleasant to watch given that none of the shows in this lineup are similar. Another thing to note is that the main actors have excellent chemistry. To be honest, if the series was done by another couple with terrible chemistry, I would expect the show to be uninteresting. But I couldn't take my gaze away from this couple, and I finished the first episode without realizing it. Don't get me wrong, the first episode barely showed us what to anticipate from the story because the most of the scenes revolved with Mut irritating and mocking Tongrak. I simply hope the upcoming episodes have more fascinating scenes, but so far, I believe the first episode established the series as a good show. For now, I'd give this series an 8/10.
#7. My Love Mix-Up
After months of anticipation, the Thai rendition of My Love Mix-Up is finally airing, and I have some comments about it. First and foremost, this Thai BL is in a tight place, as the Japanese adaptation in 2021 was also a fan favorite. Because they used the same source material, it is quite possible that fans would compare it to the original version. Personally, I won't mind these adaptations because the Thai versions may still deliver a terrific execution, as seen by the Thai adaptation of Cherry Magic. On the series itself, the main actors did an excellent job in the first episode, and I hope that their characters will continue to develop in subsequent episodes. For the time being, it's too early to say if the series will be excellent or not, so we'll have to wait and see what it brings us in the future. Based on the first episode, I'd give this an 8/10 rating.
I'm especially like the June BL drama lineup because it has a variety of love stories. Which of these BL Series do you have on your watch list? Thank you for reading! That's it, and I'll see you on the next one.
