8 Most Exciting Upcoming BL Series!
8 Most Exciting Upcoming BL Series!
There have been some fantastic ongoing BL dramas recently, but we can't help but be excited for the next BL series to premiere. In this blog, I will share with you some of the upcoming BL dramas that will truly excite us, whether for the plot or the characters themselves. Without further ado, let us begin.
#1. JACK & JOKER
We just got the official trailer for Jack & Joker last Friday, and it's amazing! The pilot assured me that this would be a distinct series, but after seeing the official trailer, I'm certain that I need to see it for myself. The main couple, YinWar, have made significant gains from the first time I met them in 2020. I've seen so many interactions between their characters, and I particularly enjoy the initial enemies to lovers story. But it's not only them who do all the work in this series; the side characters are as compelling and add to the overall excitement of the plot. Jack & Joker tells the story of Joker, a known robber with a gift for disguise, and Jack, a calm but frightening debt collector, as they team up for a huge theft. While the Joker steals from the rich to benefit the poor, Jack, despite his fearsome reputation, believes in using his might to protect the vulnerable. Their cooperation is a mix of adoration and tension, fueled by opposing philosophies and common interests. Jack & Joker will air on iQiYi on September 9.
#2. KIDNAP
After ten long months, GMMTV has officially disclosed the premiere date for Kidnap: The Series, and many fans are looking forward to Ohm's return to the BL World. This is his return to the BL scene following his successful time in Bad Buddy in 2021, and I know some of you are quite enthusiastic about his upcoming BL drama. Since the pilot teaser was released last year, I've been looking forward to this series because, for starters, we'll be seeing a new partnership on-screen, which is thrilling and intriguing. Next, the plot is fairly unique by today's standards, which contributes to the overall intensity of the show. Finally, the tone is serious, therefore I'm hoping for a decent execution. Kidnap tells the story of Min, who, desperate for money to pay for his brother's medication, becomes a kidnapper. However, when told to kill the affluent young man he has kidnapped, Min is unable to do it. Instead, he lies to his boss, claiming that the task is complete, and surreptitiously transports the young man home to hide him. Kidnap premieres on YouTube and Netflix on September 6.
#3. FOUREVER YOU
If the first two BL dramas had a serious tone, this new Thai BL series has plenty of romantic and comedy scenes that will make you smile. It may not be as distinctive as the others on our list, but it is still enjoyable to see something with a light plot and minimal drama. There are some known people in this BL, but the new pairings are what keep this series interesting to watch. Fourever You Project tells the story of four second-year medical students who meet four juniors from the same university. Because there are so many characters, this Thai BL will have a total of 16 episodes. Fourever You Project is slated to air in 2024.
#4. THE BOY NEXT WORLD
The opening for this upcoming Thai BL just has a minute to tease us with what's to come, but I'm already looking forward to seeing it. You already know that I am a great fantasy BL fan, so discussing parallel universes is a no-brainer and a catchy topic for me. Aside from that, it's the return of Boss and Noeul to the BL scene, so everyone is looking forward to their new roles. The Boy Next World tells the story of Phugun, who has never experienced love and has no concept what it would feel like. His life takes an unexpected turn when Cirrus, a gorgeous and aloof man known as the Ice Prince, appears. Cirrus claims to be Phugun's boyfriend from a parallel world, adding to the mystery and intrigue. Despite his frigid exterior, Cirrus believes Phugun is the most important person in his life. This revelation makes Phugun perplexed and concerned about the nature of their relationship. The Boy Next World is currently shooting, so anticipate it will air later this year.
#5. LOVE SICK 2024
Ten years after the first Love Sick, the iconic Thai BL will be remade so that we can relive our favorite characters' moments. Before we had anything, Love Sick was one of the BL dramas that established the path for most of what followed. Punn has a girlfriend, but his father insists he date his friend's daughter, and Punn's sister, Pang, is infatuated with boys' love stories. To evade his father's plan, Punn convinces Pang that he has a lover and recruits Noh, a fellow student in need of finances for his school club, to play the role in exchange for assistance with the budget. As Punn and Noh spend more time together, their fake relationships evolves into genuine feelings, causing them to fall in love. Love Sick is set to air on September 14.
#6. THE EX-MORNING
As a fan of Peraya, it's no surprise that The Ex-Morning is one of my most eagerly anticipated BL dramas for next year. Although it has been established that it will not air this year, at least I have something to look forward to in 2025, and the quality will not be rushed. It's strange to think that after 9 years after their first BL, Krist and Singto will return to the small screen as an on-screen couple. The Ex-Morning tells the story of Pathapi, a broadcaster who is demoted after a public scandal. His ex-partner, Tamtawan, is tasked with assisting him in restoring his reputation. The Ex-Morning is set to air next year.
#7. KHEMJIRA
If there is one weakness I always have, it is my aversion to horror dramas and films. Khemjira is unfortunately a horror BL, but the official pilot has me really enthusiastic about the show's main romance. The pilot did not fail to demonstrate their chemistry, even if only for a few minutes, which is a key part of the show. Khemjira tells the story of Khem, a young man born into a familial curse that states he will lose any son before the age of twenty. The curse purportedly spared daughters, so his mother named him Khemjira, which means "forever safe," to protect him. Khem maintained this notion till his nineteenth birthday. Khemjira might premiere in late 2024 or early 2025.
#8. THAME PO
Another GMMTV that has piqued my interest is Thame Po, which was unveiled earlier this year. Not only is the plot intriguing, but the characters are also appealing because of their new looks. Est might not be a new actor anymore, but I'm glad he's getting the recognition he deserves. William, on the other hand, appears to be an excellent actor, but it remains to be seen whether he will perform well in this series. Thame Po tells the story of Po, who is tasked with documenting boy band Mar's final concert before they disintegrate. Throughout the process, he suddenly becomes Thame's closest confidant. As Thame prepares to make his debut in South Korea, he realizes he'll be leaving the rest of the group behind. Thame Po is scheduled to premiere sometime in late 2024.
Besides these, there are additional upcoming BL dramas:
A. THE NEXT PRINCE
"The Next Prince" is an eagerly anticipated Thai BL series that reunites fan favorites Zee Pruk and NuNew Chawarin, who previously wowed audiences in Cutie Pie. The series is set in the imaginary kingdom of Emmaly and tells the story of Crown Prince Khanin, who was raised as a commoner but is restored to his royal duties by his bodyguard, Charan. The show's official pilot teased heated romance and regal competition, fueling curiosity. Fans are delighted for the elaborate character posters and expect that the on-screen connection between the two leads will shine once more.
B. LOVE UPON A TIME
"Love Upon a Time" is causing a lot of excitement among BL fans because of its unique historical drama premise and the connection between its protagonists. However, the unexpected departure of actor James Supamongkun has created some delays and sadness, as fans were hoping to see him team up with Net Siraphop after their great cooperation in "Bed Friend". Despite the setback, the production firm has informed supporters that they are striving to find a new actor who can match expectations. The official pilot garnered great reception, and the series is still intended to tell a visually compelling and emotionally intense story. Overall, supporters are confident that the show will overcome these obstacles and fulfill its promise.
C. REVAMP
"Revamp: The Undead Story" is a new BL series that reunites the fan-favorite pair of Boun Noppanut and Prem Warut, who previously captivated audiences with their chemistry in Until We Met Again. This supernatural drama follows Punn, who accidently revives a vampire named Ramil, sparking a fascinating adventure in which Ramil seeks to reclaim his lost abilities. This series is greatly anticipated by fans due to its blend of romance and mystery, as well as the engaging performances of its cast. Directed by New Siwaj Sawatmaneekul, "Revamp" promises suspense and emotional moments.
D. THE HEART KILLERS
"The Heart Killers" is a new BL series from Thailand that combines action, drama, and romance with a unique twist. The plot revolves around Kant, a tattoo artist who is dragged into the world of assassins after meeting Bison and Fadel, two brothers who live double lives as restaurant owners and contract murderers. Early reviews stress the fascinating blend of crime, love, and moral quandaries, promising great character chemistry as well as emotional depth. Fans are especially enthused about the cast, which features popular actors Kanaphan Puitrakul and Thanawat Rattanakitpaisan. The series' dramatic premise and sophisticated presentation have created hype, making it a widely anticipated addition to the 2024 BL lineup.
E. MY GOLDEN BLOOD
"My Golden Blood" is an upcoming Thai BL series that combines romance and supernatural themes. It depicts the story of Mark, a vampire who discovers a new purpose in life after meeting Tong, a young man with a rare and strong type of blood. The intriguing notion of love, danger, and temptation has fans eagerly anticipating its arrival. The series promises great performances, particularly from Joss Way-ar Sangngern and Fluke Gawin Caskey, whose chemistry is set to shine onscreen. With its combination of powerful emotions and imagination, "My Golden Blood" is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated BL series of 2024.
F. LOVE IN THE AIR
The planned Japanese version of the popular Thai BL series Love in the Air, titled Love in the Air - Koi no Yokan, is building anticipation as it prepares for its November 2024 release. This remake adheres to the original's romantic and tempestuous plot while introducing new faces from the Japanese entertainment industry. The lead actors, Nagumo Shoma and Hamaya Takuto, are expected to add tremendous chemistry and emotional depth to their roles, promising a compelling love story. Fans are excited to see how the Japanese adaptation will include its own cultural subtleties into the renowned plot of the original. With much anticipation, the series is expected to have a huge impact on both new and existing fans.
I sincerely hope that these dramas would arrive sooner rather than later and not disappoint us. New BL dramas every month are a treat to watch, especially if they are nice and skillfully written. Which upcoming BL series do you look forward to the most? Thank you for reading! That's it, and I'll see you on the next one.
