12 Most Popular Current BL Series in January 2025!
The new year has just begun, yet our days are already packed with these exciting BL dramas, and several of them are quite captivating. If you have a preferred list of BL series to watch at the moment, don’t hesitate to share it in the comments below. Now, let's dive straight into the blog.
#01. IMPRESSION OF YOUTH
This Taiwanese BL series has just launched, with the first two episodes being released this week, and those who have watched it suggest it’s yet another series to anticipate each week. Taiwanese BL dramas are truly innovating with their storylines, which adds to the enjoyment of watching them. Impression of Youth centers around Yu Xing, an art student who takes a teaching position at a rural high school to revive his creative spirit. There, he encounters Xu Lu Hui, an enthusiastic student with a strong passion for painting. They develop a connection through art classes, but as their relationship evolves, Lu Hui's feelings for Yu Xing give rise to a complicated and taboo romance.
#02. ETERNAL BUTLER
Currently airing in Taiwan is the BL series Eternal Butler. If you enjoyed Anti-Reset from last year, you might find Eternal Butler intriguing since it features characters from the same universe. The series is nearly halfway through its run, and the reviews have been somewhat mixed up to this point, but whether it resonates with you will largely depend on your tastes. Eternal Butler centers on Ever 4, an AI robot tasked with serving Luo Bu Shi, a solitary heir. As Ever 4's devotion and unique traits help build their connection, Luo Bu Shi experiences a meaningful change, cultivating a friendship that goes beyond limits.
#03. THAMEPO
My current favorite ongoing BL series is ThamePo, and I'm really looking forward to the next episode. I'm not sure why, but the chemistry between the lead couple and the storyline has made me completely enamored with it. There seems to be something special about this series that draws me in each week. ThamePo tells the story of Po, who is tasked with documenting the final concert of boy group Mars before they disband. He unexpectedly becomes the trusted confidant of Thame, the leader of the group, who is preparing for his debut in South Korea, leaving his bandmates—Dylan, Jun, Nano, and Pepper—caught in a web of tension and misunderstandings.
#04. WHEN IT RAINS, IT POURS
The first Japanese BL series on our list is When It Rains It Pours, and fans are already enjoying its initial two episodes. It’s quite unfortunate that the show consists of only 7 episodes in total, but that also means we can binge-watch it sooner rather than later. When It Rains It Pours tells the story of Hagiwara Kazuaki, whose strained relationship with his girlfriend takes an unexpected turn when he mistakenly sends an email to his coworker, Nakarai Sei. This error ignites a profound and freeing connection between two people who are yearning for love and closeness.
#05. I'LL TURN BACK THIS TIME
Chinese dramas typically aren't my favorite since they tend to focus more on bromance than BL due to censorship issues. However, there's currently a Chinese series that’s gaining traction among fans because of its storyline. I Will Turn Back This Time tells the tale of Shen Nan and Gu Shi Wen, who become a family after their parents remarry. As Shen Nan helps mend Shi Wen's broken heart, their love starts to bloom, though they encounter various challenges. Resolute in his desire to defy fate, Shen Nan is determined to turn back time and avert tragedy.
#06. SANGMIN DINNEAW
One of the primary actors in this show is Korean, while the other hails from Thailand, yet the entire production is managed by a Thai company. We've encountered similar arrangements in the past, and often, they employed two languages simultaneously, which typically proved ineffective. Sangmin Dinneaw revolves around Sang Min, who reestablishes a connection with Orn and their now-adult, attractive son, Dinneaw, years after he lived with them as a child exchange student in Thailand.
#07. THE BOY NEXT WORLD
I haven't watched this yet, but we've already had two episodes of this series. The return of Boss and Noeul in this drama has generated a lot of excitement among their fans since the show was announced. As a fantasy and thriller series, it will surely leave us puzzled with various theories about the characters' true situations. The Boy Next World tells the story of Phukan, who has never known love until Cirrus, a cold yet attractive main character claiming to be his boyfriend from a parallel universe, enters his life and declares that Phukan is his most cherished person.
#08. OSSAN'S LOVE TH
One of the ongoing Thai BL dramas is Ossan's Love Thailand, which has received a mix of reviews. Although I haven't watched it yet, I'm aware that Ossan's Love is recognized for its comedic storyline, much like the original Japanese adaptation. However, I believe that EarthMix is better suited for a dramatic role than a comedic one. The plot of Ossan's Love Thailand revolves around Heng, an unfortunate property consultant in love, who finds himself in a tumultuous love triangle when his boss Kongdech, colleague Mo, and childhood friend Chicha all declare their feelings for him, forcing him to navigate a storm of emotions and choose who will capture his heart.
In addition to these titles, here are some other ongoing BL series you may want to check out this January:
#09. PERFECT 10 LINERS
A Thai BL series currently in progress consists of 24 episodes and centers around three primary couples.
#10. FOUREVER YOU
A different university-focused BL series features four primary couples in its narrative.
#11. YOUR SKY
A Thai BL series that showcases the journey from pretending to be in love to truly falling for each other.
#12. THE HEART KILLERS
A Thai BL series that blends action, romance, and comedy.
There are various ongoing BL series across different genres, so you can choose the ones to watch this month based on your preferences. Which ongoing BL series do you suggest the most? Thank you for taking the time to read this! That’s all for now, and I’ll catch you in the next one.
