10 Most Disappointing BL Series of 2025 Up to This Point?!

The year 2025 has brought a combination of outstanding BL series and others that do not quite meet quality standards. While some of us may remain unaffected by ratings—given our diverse preferences—curiosity often drives us to explore which BL series received poor scores and to determine if they were justified. This compilation may feature titles with low ratings from this year, but ultimately, it is up to each individual to decide if they are worth viewing. So, without further delay, let's dive into the blog.

#10. SASHES & HEARTS

It has been some time since I watched a Filipino BL series aside from Love At First Spike, which is currently airing. In 2020, a number of Filipino BL series were launched, and several of them became some of my favorites due to their engaging stories and narratives. Jumping to 2025, there are only a few Filipino BL releases, one of which is Sashes and Hearts. Unfortunately, this series has received lower ratings compared to other BL shows. Although I haven't seen it yet, I think its storyline is quite original, as it tells a tale that hasn't been much explored in other BL series. The tough realities and controversies surrounding male pageantry are topics that many viewers may find interesting—especially those who enjoy dramatic narratives. Sashes & Hearts is available for viewing on YouTube.

#09. I PROMISE I WILL COME BACK

Similar to Sashes and Hearts, this Thai BL series also struggled with low ratings. I've only watched the trailer, and based on that alone, I chose not to engage with it because I didn’t feel the plot appealed to me. Even though it’s not the kind of BL series I typically enjoy, there were still some remarks suggesting that the show was actually worth watching, as the story was primarily centered around a love triangle. Some viewers hinted that the conclusion was different from what they anticipated, but overall, it features a slow-burn romance with its own distinctive charm. While some might consider that a drawback, I believe there are still fans who found it enjoyable. I Promise I Will Come Back is available for viewing on WeTV.

#08. MISSION TO THE MOON

Although this series has a slightly lower average rating, I think its format, episode count, and subpar writing held it back. I believe the plot had the potential to be excellent, but it wasn't executed well enough to meet audience expectations. With only 8 to 10 minutes of runtime per episode across 30 episodes, it struggled to make an impact, especially when compared to other BL series that feature longer runtimes but fewer episodes. You can watch Mission To The Moon on YouTube.

#07. LAST MEAL UNIVERSE

Last Meal Universe received one of the lowest ratings this year. As someone who enjoys fantasy or sci-fi BL series, I initially believed that this show would meet my expectations as a viewer. However, my experience while watching it turned out to be quite different from what I had anticipated. I have to admit that some viewers might appreciate it, but it certainly isn't for everyone, especially those who lean more towards a sci-fi-oriented narrative rather than a comedic one. Another issue with this series was the absence of chemistry, as I found the relationship to be unconvincing. Last Meal Universe is available for viewing on One D website.

#06. BLESSING OF LOVE

With a disappointing average low rating, Blessing of Love joins the ranks of Thai BL series on our list. I recall coming across this series previously but forgetting about it, likely due to other shows capturing my attention more effectively. The concept of a romance between a man and a ghost has become familiar, as this theme has appeared in several other BL series. Unfortunately, it failed to captivate many fans who were seeking something innovative to enjoy. The reviews for the series are rather mixed, with some viewers appreciating the narrative's progression while others found it lacking. You can watch Blessing of Love on YouTube.

#05. FLIRT MILK

If I recall correctly, this Thai BL series was often reported to be canceled due to the absence of updates, but unexpectedly, it was released this year after years of uncertainty. Unfortunately, it did not receive a positive reception, as it achieved low ratings from fans. Reviews skewed towards the negative, with many viewers expressing that watching the series felt like a waste of time. It has been a challenging year for Thai BL dramas, with only a few notable shows—and regrettably, Flirt Milk was not among them. Flirt Milk can be viewed on YouTube and iQiYi.

#04. A PERFECT MATCH

Taiwanese BL dramas are often regarded as higher-quality productions due to their previous successes, but that hasn't consistently held true over the years. A Perfect Match is one of the lowest-rated BL series this year, and I can somewhat concur with that evaluation based on what I've observed. At first, I was attracted to its storyline, particularly since it's been a while since a romance-sports BL series piqued my interest. However, the insufficient character development made it hard for me to engage with the narrative or its characters. A Perfect Match is available for streaming on iQiYi.

#03. LOY KAEW FIRST LOVE

If this series had debuted ten years ago, it likely would have garnered a much better rating than it currently holds. With an average low score, fans were not especially pleased with its melancholy conclusion. In addition to the lackluster performances from certain cast members, the sorrowful ending to the romance may have shaped the audience’s general view of the show. While it wasn't particularly innovative, the series remained quite enjoyable, especially for viewers invested in the central couple. However, narratives like this might not connect as deeply with contemporary audiences. Loy Kaew First Love is available for viewing on YouTube.

#02. THE LAST TIME

I wasn't able to catch this show when it was originally airing, primarily because it didn't pique my interest. However, there were numerous complaints regarding its confusing nature, mainly attributed to the overuse of flashbacks and inadequate editing, which struggled to cohesively link the storyline. I also found that the lead couple lacked chemistry in the pilot episode, though that could just be my personal opinion. With its generally low rating, it’s definitely challenging to endorse, but you might still consider checking it out for your own experience. The Last Time is available for viewing on WeTV.

#01. EYE CONTACT

Eye Contact has also been regarded as the worst-rated BL series of the year thus far. To be honest, I had never come across this BL before—or I might have just forgotten it—but one thing is evident; it wasn't a great series based on the feedback. Numerous viewers commented that the writing was chaotic, but for me, the main problem lies in the contentious plot they decided to follow. It's disappointing, especially considering WeTV has had a few successes this year, but Eye Contact isn't the BL series you want to watch. Eye Contact is available for viewing on WeTV.

As I pointed out previously, although these BL series have the lowest ratings of 2025 to date, you may still find it interesting to check them out to understand the reasons behind their ratings. So, do you concur with the ratings assigned to these BL series? Thank you for taking the time to read this! That's all for now, and I'll catch you in the next one.
